Captured U.S. soldier was 'sold' to local insurgent group

Captured U.S. soldier was 'sold'to local insurgent group; terrorists say they'll release video soon.

An American soldier who went missing from a U.S. base in eastern Afghanistan was "sold" to a local militant group - which claims it will soon release a video of the captive and a list of demands, a U.S. military official said.

"Our leaders have not decided on the fate of this soldier," said a commander with the Taliban's hard-line Haqqani faction, according to Agence-France Press. "They will decide on his fate and soon we will present video tapes of the coalition soldier and our demand to media."

The identity of the captured soldier has not been released in order to protect his safety while U.S. troops desperately comb the area for him.

"We are using all of our resources to find him and provide for his safe return," said military spokeswoman "We are not providing further details to protect the soldier's well-being."

Officials said his family has been notified.

It is the first time a U.S. soldier has been captured in Afghanistan since the war began in 2001.

  3. This is another reasom I am against these actions. Because the only way to stop them is with force ten to twenty times what is used against us. Unless our leadership is willing to go balls and all, send however many soldiers are necessary and do whatever it takes to actually provide security and the means to change the attitudes of those that hate us. We will never win. All we are doing is providing targets.

Thank you for allowing me into your conversation.

  4. Truth is right. If we are going to war, then let's fight and WIN. This isn't like Stratego for crying out loud.

Welcome to the blogosphere, My Thoughts. Nice to have you. And yes, things can get a little wacko at times, like Neverland!

Did someone hack your computer, Truth? Balls out? That is a big admission for you. I have to say I agree; rules of engagement need to assist, not cripple us.

There is a little more to Afghanistan, though, than a conventional ground war. The asymmetric value and the terrain make this more difficult. Couple that with restrictive ROE, you have the disaster that is going on now. If we just nuked the Helmand province, this war would be over.

  7. Once the vote is taken the time for talk is over. The debate then turns to how do we accomplish what needs to be done. If that means raising taxes to do it right, our Congressmen need to have the you know whats to tell us that's what we need. If it takes a draft and 500 thousand Soldiers on the ground. So be it. President Bush does this seven years ago and an image of his head is being carved on Mt. Rushmore, and on mountains in Iraq today.

Do it right or not at all.

  8. My Thoughts, welcome to the blogosphere! You seem to have a good start going, keep up the good work. I hate to see an American soldier get captured but there is a chance to get him back in one piece. As long as the POS OTUS lets the military do it's job without any intervention from him, we have a chance of getting our man back alive. Those drones and hellfire missiles can work miracles. If we don't get him back alive, let's at least take a shitload of them in exchange!

  10. I see you're having a welcome party, MyThts! Lots of good folks have already been invited!! Truth, I can't believe it, but I'm w/ you & Bluepit (you're not the 'I can't believe it' part, Blue). :) From the beginning, we should have done what needed to have been done. You're so right, Truth.

HOWEVER...(& here's where our opinions diverge), instead of Pres. Bush's likeness being carved on Mt. Rushmore, he would have been railroaded out of Washington, impeached, lambasted for decades to come (not that he isn't already).

Our country wasWAAAAYYY too PC to do what should have been done. We were WAAAAAAYYYYY too scared of what France would think, what Spain would say, what Russia's take was. And look at us NOW...oh my word...we're bowing the Muslim Saudi king & greeting the Islamic world w/ words that only muslims use - to gleeful applause.

    Heaven help us, friends.

Great work, MyThts. Keep it up!
